Greenargy is a Digital Energy Platform transforming how clean energy is discovered, financed, delivered and managed across underserved communities in Cameroon. Our mission is to expand access to affordable, reliable, and clean energy in rural communities through innovative digital technologies and sustainable energy solutions, with specific focus on empowering women and girls. Through innovative technology, affordable renewable energy solutions, and community-driven delivery models, Greenargy is revolutionizing how underserved rural communities discover, finance, purchase, install, and manage clean energy solutions.
Energy poverty is a widespread issue in rural communities in Cameroon, where a significant portion of the population lacks access to reliable and affordable sources of energy. This lack of access to electricity has far-reaching consequences, including limited access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. Women and girls, in particular, bear the brunt of this energy poverty as they often spend long hours collecting firewood and other traditional sources of energy, which negatively impacts their education, health, and overall well-being.
Greenargy was founded with two simple aims, to make clean energy Accessible and Affordable in Rural Communities in Cameroon. Our solution involves distributing high-quality, low-cost energy products that meet the energy needs for Homes, Businesses, and Schools in rural communities. Empowering them to transition to Clean Energy, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions.
As we expanded our operations, our team identified deeper challenges: Millions of people in rural communities face significant barriers to adopting clean energy due to limited market availability, high costs, lack of trusted suppliers, and low awareness of renewable energy technologies. Solar energy solutions were concentrated in urban centers, making them expensive and difficult for rural families to access. Traditional distribution channels limited our ability to reach the people who needed clean energy the most.
To bridge this gap, Greenargy launch an inclusive digital marketplace that connects underserved rural communities with affordable renewable energy products and services. Our platform makes clean energy easier to discover, compare, purchase, and access regardless of location. By combining digital technology, community-driven distribution, doorstep delivery, and customer support, we are removing barriers that have historically excluded rural and low-income families from participating in the clean energy transition, helping thousands of families gain access to affordable and reliable clean energy solutions.
Greenargy has made it easier for individuals, low-income families and communities to access affordable solar solutions online with confidence and without the burden of traveling long distances or paying excessive costs. Through innovation, technology, and local engagement, we are accelerating the transition to sustainable energy while creating economic opportunities and advancing the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy for All.
Greenargy’s mission is driven by the understanding that access to clean energy is vital for sustainable development and empowerment of communities, especially in rural areas where traditional energy sources like kerosene or firewood are predominantly used. These sources often lead to environmental degradation, health problems, and financial burdens for families.
We Come to You: Ensuring that people in rural Cameroon have access to reliable, high quality, affordable and clean energy solutions. Our distribution network ensures that even the most remote communities have access to affordable and efficient solar solutions. In addition to product distribution, we provide installation services, maintenance support, training and educational programs on the benefits and usage of solar technology.
To achieve Greenargy’s mission, Greenargy focuses on providing solar-powered products that can be used for various purposes, such as lighting homes, powering small appliances, and charging mobile devices. This not only reduces the reliance on traditional, polluting energy sources like kerosene lamps, Diesel Generators but also helps to promote gender equality by providing women and girls with access to education, economic opportunities and a means of livelihood.
Our Mission: Greenargy’s mission is to expand access to affordable, reliable, and clean energy in rural communities through innovative digital technologies and sustainable energy solutions.
Our Vision: We envision a future where every household and business has access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions, enabling them to thrive economically while contributing to climate action—leaving no one behind.
At Greenargy Enterprise, we pride ourselves on being more than just a solar distribution company—we are changemakers committed to driving social impact through renewable energy adoption. Here’s what sets us apart: our work is guided by these core values:
Rural Cameroon presents a significant opportunity for entrepreneurs to invest in solar energy due to its abundant sunlight, limited access to grid electricity, and increasing demand for sustainable energy solutions. With approximately 32% of rural communities having access to electricity compared to the national average of 70%, there is a substantial gap that solar energy can fill. The tropical climate ensures consistent solar radiation throughout the year, making it an ideal environment for solar projects.
The government of Cameroon has also set ambitious goals to increase renewable energy’s share in the national energy mix to 42% by 2035, with a strong focus on solar energy. Policies such as tax exemptions for renewable energy projects and feed-in-tariff schemes further incentivize investment in this sector.
Our primary focus is on rural communities in Cameroon that lack access to reliable electricity. By targeting underserved areas, we aim to empower homes and business with clean energy solutions that enhance their daily lives and contribute to economic development.
From a Kerosene Lamp to a Mission to Transform Energy Access. Growing up in a rural community in Cameroon without electricity, Dinga Franklin Fofung understood energy poverty long before he knew the term. Like millions of families across Sub-Saharan Africa, his family relied on kerosene lamps to light their home after sunset. What seemed like an ordinary part of daily life came at a cost. Years of exposure to kerosene fumes caused a serious eye condition during his childhood, affecting both his health and his education. It was a painful experience that would shape the course of his life.
As Dinga grew older, he realized his family’s story was not unique. Across rural Cameroon, countless children still studied under dim kerosene lamps. Motivated by his experiences and determined to make a difference, he came up with the idea of starting a solar distribution company. However, turning this vision into reality proved challenging due to financial constraints. Dinga faced numerous obstacles while seeking funding for his venture. He applied for loans from 13 different banks including microfinance institutions but was repeatedly turned down due to a lack of collateral. Attempts to raise capital from family and friends also failed, leaving him on the brink of giving up. Despite these setbacks, Dinga remained persistent.
Instead of giving up, he looked for another path. He developed a proposal demonstrating how affordable solar energy could improve the lives and productivity of cocoa farmers by reducing energy costs and increasing access to reliable power. His vision resonated with a local cocoa company. The company provided an investment loan of 250,000 FCFA (approximately US$400).
It was not a large investment, but it changed everything. With that first investment, Dinga launched Greenargy, beginning with a simple mission: make clean energy affordable and accessible for underserved communities. Rather than waiting for customers to come to him, Greenargy adopted a community-based distribution model, working directly with local residents to understand their needs and deliver practical solar solutions. Within just three months, Greenargy sold more than 100 solar lamps, proving that there was both demand and trust within rural communities. That early success attracted another cocoa company, which invested 5 million FCFA (approximately US$8,500) to help expand the business.
Today, Greenargy has evolved far beyond a solar distribution company into a Digital Energy Platform that is digitizing access to clean energy across underserved communities. Through innovative digital technologies, flexible financing solutions, local distribution networks, and trusted partnerships, Greenargy is making it easier for households, businesses, schools, farmers, and health facilities to discover, finance, purchase, install, and manage renewable energy solutions.
One of Greenargy’s greatest strengths is its people. Many members of the Greenargy team have personally experienced energy poverty. They understand the daily challenges their customers face because they have lived them themselves. This shared experience creates trust within communities and enables the team to design practical solutions alongside local people rather than for them.
In 2025, Dinga received the Outstanding Negotiator Award at the Best Diplomats Conference in Paris for work on Policies for Sustainable Energy Development Surrounding Renewable Energy – SDG 7.
For Dinga, every household that replaces a kerosene lamp with clean solar lighting, every child who can study safely after dark, every entrepreneur who can keep their business open longer, and every rural community connected to reliable energy represents another step toward the future he imagined as a child. His journey, from growing up without electricity, overcoming repeated rejection, and launching Greenargy with just 250,000 FCFA, demonstrates what resilience, purpose, and persistence can achieve.
Today, Dinga continues to lead Greenargy with a simple belief: That lasting impact comes from listening first, collaborating closely, and building solutions that communities genuinely need.
